Wine Review: Wollersheim Winery's Blushing Rose
Wollersheim Winery in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin, makes around 20 wines, depending on the year and harvest.
One of my favorite things to do in summer and fall is visit wineries around Wisconsin. I've found that I like any Wisconsin wine better than 90 percent of what I buy at the grocery store. I also like buying local and supporting agriculture.
One of my favorites (of places I've been so far) is Wollersheim Winery's Blushing Rose. It's a sweet wine that goes great with nearly any meal. I know a lot of people are into the "wine pairing" thing, but honestly, I drink any kind of wine with any kind of dish and I haven't yet found a bad combination.
I do, however, recommend sweeter wines such as Blushing Rose be paired with lighter meals, poultry or pasta. I probably wouldn't crack open this bottle with a meatloaf or pot roast stew.
According to Wollersheim's website, this wine has hints of mango, kiwi and pineapple. It's great with any grilled food in the summer, and my husband and I enjoy it with tomato-based pasta dishes. (See my quick and easy recipe for Chicken Parmesan.)
Wollersheim wines are not only award-winning, they're reasonably priced. Even people on a budget, like us, can afford to pick up a case and stock up to have wine on special occasions. Blushing rose is $8.50 per bottle, and Wollersheim discounts it if you buy certain quantities. I'm a firm believer that you don't need to spend a ton of money to find a good bottle of wine. In fact, the $3 to $6 bottles at stores in our area are often tastier than the pricier bottles.
I'm in no way associated with Wollersheim Winery, I just wanted to share my thoughts on a Wisconsin wine, and other reviews from wineries across the state will be posted in the future. I hope these Hubs will encourage people to pay their local wineries a visit and try something new.
